NSN.-In three years riders could enter new stations every four blocks in the middle of Ashland Avenue for a express bus planned today by the CTA.
Starting in 2016 the bus version of rail rapid transit aims to cut travel time by at least 75 percent. The transit agency announced at the same time that the project will cost $160 million dollars, money from the federal, state, county and city.
The busses only center lane, one of each direction on approximately 6 mil section, between Armitage Ave. and 31th St, and when in operation the service will run on an 24-hour bases, officials said.
CTA officials plan to pay for the design, construction and special buses from moneys of all government levels and are looking at creative finance sources they have yet to line up.
