Possible tougher school zone speed

NSN.- A majority of state representatives voted in favor of a new legislation that would require drivers to slow to 20 miles in a school zone any time a child is nearby regardless o whether school is in session.

The sponsor of the measure, Rep. Elaine Nekritz, of Northbrook said the todays law don’t do enough to protect students.

One of the opponents of the legislation, Rep. Monique Davis, of Chicago, said that the law, if is approved, “would be a money grab targeting drivers”. Davis said that “in the district I represent there are schools everywhere you turn”.

Nekritz and Davis are democrats. The legislation was approved 90-11 and now goes to the Senate.
